Dr Gal Strasberg FRACGP, MBBS, BAppSc

Dr. Gal is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), having received his training in Australia. In 2021, he moved to Applethorpe, Queensland, with the goal of starting a bulk-billed, rural general practice that brings the doctor and clinic directly to your home.

The Strasberg Medical team is eager to embrace innovations in health technology and adjust to the evolving needs of rural general practice. Using point-of-care technologies and diagnostics, his team at Strasberg Medical offers a fully bulk-billed, home-visit general practice service in addition to a clinic-based allergy testing service.

Dr. Gal is committed to ongoing professional development with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Harvard University, and Stanford University in the United States. Two areas of particular interest are the use of artificial intelligence platforms in healthcare delivery and point-of-care ultrasound.

a little bit about us imagea little bit about us image
Strasberg Medical is excited to provide our General Practice patients with point-of-care ultrasound using the ButterflyIQ+, a state-of-the art medical technology facilitating whole-body imaging in real-time at patients' homes. This is among several new technologies we have recently integrated into our home-based General Practice service.

Our team is re-imagining the medical consult and continually striving to improve the patient experience through better diagnostic accuracy and timeliness, as well as incorporating technologies to strengthen procedural safety, accuracy, and comfort.
Rural General Practice is evolving and we embrace opportunities to support accessible, high quality care for our rural community.

A big thanks to The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) who are supporting rural clinics such as ours with Point-of-Care Ultrasound training and who demonstrate ongoing commitment to improving patient outcomes in regional, rural and remote communities.

ALLERGY TESTING AND ASTHMA SERVICE  image
1 in 5 Australians experience some form of allergic disease and 1 in 10 experience asthma. Indeed, Australian children experience the highest prevalence of food allergy in the world. Allergic conditions can be debilitating, impacting upon a patient's quality of life, employment and recreational pursuits.

Sadly, allergic conditions often remain undiagnosed or suboptimally treated due to a lack of awareness about testing and treatment options, and limited availability of doctors with relevant training and experience. Interestingly, about 80% of people with asthma also have positive allergy tests and it can sometimes be useful to know about allergic triggers, particularly if symptoms don't improve as expected with standard treatments.

Common allergic conditions include:
• Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
• Some types of Asthma
• Atopic dermatitis (eczema)
• Urticaria (hives)
• Insect allergy
• Food allergies/sensitivities

Over the past few years I have undertaken further education and training in order to perform skin prick allergy testing, widely recognised as the gold-standard method of identifying specific allergens associated with allergic conditions. This safe, reliable, and convenient method of testing provides rapid results (usually within 15 - 20 minutes) and is well-tolerated by adults and even small children. Common allergens tested for include, but are not limited to, pollens, grasses, dust mites, egg, nuts, fruits, and animals. In some cases, a specialised "prick to prick" test (using the actual food) may be performed when commercially prepared extracts of the allergen are not available.

Once specific triggers are identified, our service offers a range of treatments to optimally manage different allergic conditions.

Skin prick testing may not be appropriate for all types of allergic disease and certain medications may need to be adjusted or withheld prior to testing. I recommend patients see their regular GP for medication review prior to undertaking any form of allergy testing.

From Friday, 17th November, 2023, Strasberg Medical is excited to offer Stanthorpe and surrounds a bulk-billed Allergy Testing and Asthma Service. Consultations will take place in Applethorpe and require 30 - 60 minutes. Priority is given to Strasberg Medical's regular patients.
